The company was founded in October 1984 and has now been operating for nearly four decades. It began modestly when a group of friends and classmates rented a small house on Nanya South Road in Banqiao City to establish Ziqiang Company. However, with a weak economy and no business foundation or financial backing, operations were difficult in the first year. Concerned about the company’s future, most shareholders eventually withdrew, leaving only Mr. Lai Cheng-Piao—now the company’s Chairman and CEO—who, with the bold spirit of “a fearless beginner,” decided to take full responsibility for the company. At that time, the company had only five employees. With everyone multitasking and working tirelessly—“wearing many hats”—Ziqiang gradually established its foundation step by step through perseverance and hard work.

When Chairman Lai Cheng-Piao first took over, the company focused mainly on subcontracting projects. Its first independent project was a surveying assignment for the Longdong Jiukong Pool, commissioned by the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The contract value was about NT$20,000. Through the Chairman’s dedication and his commitment to providing outstanding service and coordination, Ziqiang earned its first recognition and gradually built a strong reputation within the industry through word-of-mouth recommendations.

Ziqiang’s growth did not happen overnight—it was achieved through steady progress and prudent management. The company has always emphasized sustainable development, expanding operations in line with financial capacity—investing in what it could afford and reinvesting steadily in advanced equipment. These include technologies for land surveying, satellite surveying, oceanographic measurement, and aerial mapping.

In 1997, Ziqiang entered the marine measurement field. Due to limited resources at the time, many supporting instruments and software had to be DIY-built in-house. Although challenging, this process allowed the team to gain deep technical understanding of marine surveying’s complexities. Today, Ziqiang owns an impressive array of modern instruments and software, including dual-frequency digital high-resolution side-scan sonar systems, magnetometers, and underwater positioning systems, making substantial contributions to the marine engineering sector.

Recognizing the arrival of the 3D GIS spatial information era, Ziqiang began investing in the development of related hardware and software in 2007, including aerial cameras, airborne LiDAR systems, survey aircraft, street-mapping vehicles, Skyline 3D GIS, and Photomesh automated modeling systems, all in preparation for future market demands. The company has since embarked on research and development of advanced 3D technologies, confident that its high-quality results will meet—and exceed—market expectations.

Now entering its 40th year, Ziqiang stands as a testament to perseverance and innovation. Through time and experience, the company has continued to achieve outstanding results.
